I've mentioned this before, but there are really three schools. The third simply states that the best software is the one that gives users enough freedom of choice that they can effectively deal with the attendant data on terms defined by the user. Forcing me to choose between "this application and that does things this way" and "that application that does things that way" is not the equivalent of letting me deal with the data on my own terms.
